Mardi Gras: a present and a recipe!

February is arrived and we are all thinking about Carnival.
We’ll talk soon about the italian way to celebrate it, but today the Kiwee Team is glad to offer you two little presents: three printable mask (Frozen and Minions inspired) to entertain children before Mardi Gras… and a castagnole recipe!

Castagnole – expecially deep fried castagnole! – are one of my favorite desserts. Luckily for me, Carnival only comes once a year 🙂

INGREDIENTS (for 30 castagnole)
350 grams/2,5 cups all purpose flour
2 medium eggs
1 egg yolk
100 grams/1/2 cup sugar
1 Tbsp. of baking powder
80 grams/3 oz of butter
1 tsp powder
Pinch of salt
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting

Start whisking together butter and sugar, add the whole eggs and the yolk, one at a time. Then, add flour, vanilla, salt and the baking powder.
Knead until all the ingredients are combined in a soft – and not too sticky – ball.
If it’s too hard, you can add a little bit of milk, and if it’s too liquid you can add a tablespoon of flour.

When the oil is hot, take a small spoonful of the dough, roll it into a walnut size ball and fry few castagnole at a time, turning half way through cooking.

When castagnole become golden brown and puffed, remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon and on paper towel to remove excess oil, then roll them in powdered sugar.

As you can see, it’s an easy and fast recipe, try it today and let us know if you liked it!
What about posting to our Facebook Page pictures of your children wearing their masks and eating castagnole?
